You
can find all kinds of lists informing you of the general traits and
skills of successful entrepreneurs. Maybe this is your first business,
or you’re thinking about starting your own online business part-time.
What are the traits and skills of successful entrepreneur? But more
importantly, where do you fit in?
1. Good health and lots of energy. A
good entrepreneur must have high energy and stamina to withstand the
physical and emotional stress, and be able to thrive on that. Emotional
stability is important, too, because you have to be able to combat
stress and keep moving ahead. Working out, eating right and top-level
fitness is hallmark of top executives and leaders alike.
2. A let’s-get-it-done attitude. The
sense of urgency, combined with efficient action allows successful
entrepreneurs to be self-motivated, work long hours and always be
thinking of the next level and the steps they are going to take to get
there.
3. The willingness to learn from mistakes, fail and keep going. Business
people who make the same mistakes again and again will find it hard to
get ahead. A good entrepreneur recognizes his mistakes, learns form them
and comes out wiser and more savvy. Graciously accept responsibility
for failure (as well as success). Assessing and facing a difficult
situation, picking up the pieces and moving on is this the thing to do.
The next time you approach a similar situation a successful entrepreneur
is going to be twice as smart.
4. The ability to get along with others. All
business communications require a certain degree of emotional
intelligence and good personality to get along with people everywhere in
your network, alliances, consumers, bankers, suppliers, and employees.
You need to be able to relate to different people, discern how others
are feeling without making them tell you first.
Other
things that make a great entrepreneur is the ability to compromise,
creativity, the ability to express yourself well either verbally or in
writing, being insightful, goal-oriented, persistent, dependable, the
ability to understand numbers, self-promote, hold steady in a crisis and
balance your personal and business lives.
Skills of a
successful entrepreneur that will take you far: the ability to manage
complex details, direct the work of others, set your own goals, and set
the goals of others, make decisions based upon fact, not emotions, and
manage your own time effectively.
In Summary
If you
don’t recognize all of these, well, they can be learned just like
anything else. Now it’s doubtful that any one person has all these
qualities, however if you see yourself all over this list, there is a
good chance you have what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur.
