Warhol not only reinvigorated the moribund art of portraiture in the early 1960s, he reinvented it. His silkscreened images are synonymous with the superstars of the
era—Marilyn, Elvis, Jackie, Liz—and all derive from film stills, publicity shots, or
newspaper photos.
